Creativity Becomes Us All

Well, here it is. The launch of the Marketing Plus blog!

What do we want to accomplish by doing this? Several things:

  • Getting to know you all better
  • Understanding what we can do to help
  • Providing useful content that (hopefully) enlightens you, inspires you and helps you in your business or other endeavors
  • Solving all of the world’s problems, one by one. (We know we can’t really do that, but how awesome would that be?)

Some posts will be simply us introducing ourselves to you (be on the lookout for this Thursday’s post, written by Account Executive Katrina Tonkogolosuk.)

Others will focus on trends in all areas of marketing, whether that trend is in advertising, social media, branding, some amazing packaging, or a topic that you all suggest. (After all, this blog is for you.)

We enjoy blowing people’s minds with facts and figures, but in a way that is fun and entertaining. Did you know that if Facebook was a country, it would be the third largest in the world? (Social Media Revolution, UK, 2012.)

We’ll post a video coming up that deals with everything from kindergartners learning on iPads to how people search the internet to a screaming goat singing along with Whitney Houston. (The last past isn’t included in the brilliant video the UK Social Revolution guys put together, but it’s funny as hell and it WILL show up here sometime.)

There will be surveys and polls for all to participate in. Let’s try a quick one right now:

Question one: True of False? I don’t do any sort of marketing, so stop bothering me with all of this. (Play the Jeopardy theme in your head…go on…) Time’s up! If you answered TRUE, Alex Trebek is going to give you a very condescending version of, “Ooooh, I’m sorry. The correct answer is false. False.”

The truth of the matter is we all do some sort of marketing everyday. Yes, Target, Disney and the big boys spend millions of dollars every year to influence you to buy their groceries, hand sanitizer, and hats with ears with your name stitched on the front.

But we spend time everyday trying to influence those around us as well. We market ourselves (when’s the last time you had your hair done or bought new clothes?) We use tactics to alter the behavior of those around us (“I know it looks like week old tuna casserole, but trust me, dear children of mine, you’ll love it.” “That’s a lovely dress you’re wearing, Mrs. Cleaver.” “HER?”)

So whether you’re running a business, a family, a volunteer group, or just your life in general, this is for you. If you are organizing an event of any size, this is for you. If you want a bi-weekly view from our window to the world, this is for you. (Redundant writing like that works great when spoken, but it’s annoying when you read it, isn’t it?) Go back and read it out loud, experiment with punching the end of each line as if you’re running for office, it’s fun.

So to wrap up the inaugural post

Please feel free to comment. Especially if there’s a topic you’d like to read about. Or a question you want to ask . Or an answer to another comment.

We’ll be updating every Tuesday and Thursday, so please be on the sniff for us. And remember, this is for you.

Quality blog posts are between 500-800 words, we’re right in the sweet spot. But for good measure, we really, really, really, really, really hope that you will find this blog educational, enlightening, broadening, scholastic, edifying, illuminating, inspiring, gratifying, pleasing, priceless, merry, agreeable, delightful, and my favorite…boffo.
